Malleable iron fittings are durable, threaded metal components widely used in plumbing, heating, gas, and industrial systems due to their combination of strength and flexibility.
They are available in various shapes and sizes to connect, extend, or change the direction of pipelines.
Key Specifications
- Material: Malleable iron (cast iron to EN1562 standard).
- Standards Met: Typically manufactured to BS EN 10242 (previously BS 143 & 1256) and ISO 7-1 for threads.
- Connection Type: Female BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe) or BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) threaded ends are standard in the UK. BSPT tapered threads provide a stronger seal than parallel threads when used with appropriate jointing compound.
- Pressure Rating: Up to 25 bar (PN25) at temperatures up to 120°C.
- Temperature Range: -20°C to 300°C (with pressure de-rating at higher temperatures).
Available Finishes
Malleable iron female elbows come in two primary finishes:
- Black Malleable Iron:
- Finish: Self-colour (black finish).
- Application: Suitable for indoor use, typically in heating, gas, oil, and diesel applications.
- Galvanised Malleable Iron:
- Finish: Hot-dip galvanised with a zinc coating, providing superior corrosion and rust resistance.
- Application: Ideal for outdoor use or in environments where moisture is a concern, such as water systems, compressed air lines, and agricultural plumbing.
