CARBON STEEL

Carbon steel fittings offer a strong, durable, and cost-effective solution for high-pressure systems handling oils, fuels, and chemicals.

Stocked in grade A105N as standard, with low temperature grade LF2 available on request.

ASTM A105 is the standard specification for forged carbon steel piping components, such as flanges, fittings, and valves, used in pressure systems at ambient and high temperatures.

It is the most commonly used carbon steel grade for these applications due to its excellent strength, weldability, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Characteristics

  • Manufacturing Process: A105 components are produced via forging, a process that yields a denser, more homogeneous structure with superior grain flow compared to cast materials. This enhances their strength and fatigue resistance.
  • Pressure and Temperature: Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature service conditions, typically operating within a range from approximately 0°C to 425°C (32°F to 800°F). It is not recommended for cryogenic or prolonged service above 425°C due to the risk of graphitization.
  • Weldability and Machinability: The material offers good weldability (when proper preheat/post-weld heat treatment are applied) and machinability, allowing for relatively easy installation and modification.

Corrosion Resistance: As a plain carbon steel, A105 is susceptible to rust and general corrosion in aggressive environments (e.g., marine or acidic conditions). It often requires protective coatings like galvanizing or painting to extend its lifespan in such applications.
