BUTTERFLY VALVES

Efficient High-Volume Flow Control: Manually Operated Butterfly Valves

Manually operated butterfly valves are the ultimate solution for throttling and isolating fluids in large-diameter piping systems. Operating on a quarter-turn design, these valves feature a central metallic disc that rotates around a spindle. A 90-degree turn of the manual lever or handwheel positions the disc parallel or perpendicular to the flow, enabling rapid shut-off and precise flow regulation.

Because of their compact, lightweight, and narrow profile, butterfly valves offer a highly economical and space-saving alternative to heavy gate or ball valves in high-volume applications.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Operation Type:
    • Lever Handle: Best for quick on/off operation in smaller pipe sizes (typically up to 6" or 8").
    • Gearbox Handwheel: Utilises mechanical advantage for effortless, gradual control on larger valves, preventing dangerous water hammer.
  • Body Style Configurations:
    • Wafer Type: Sandwiched directly between two pipe flanges; the most lightweight and cost-effective design.
    • Lug Type: Features threaded metal inserts that bolt directly to the flanges, allowing for downstream piping removal while the system is under pressure.
  • Flow Performance: High flow coefficient (Cv) with minimal footprint, though the central disc remains in the flow path even when fully open.
