REDUCING TEE

A reducing tee is a pipe fitting used to connect three pipes of different diameters at a single junction, allowing fluid flow to branch off into a smaller or larger line. Unlike an equal tee (where all three openings are the same size), a reducing tee has a main run (the two in-line openings) and a branch opening with varying nominal bore sizes. 

Sizing and Nomenclature

Reducing tees are described using three measurements in a specific order:
Run Size 1 (A) x Run Size 2 (B) x Branch Size (C).
The first two dimensions (A and B) refer to the main, straight-through section of the pipe, while the third dimension (C) refers to the diameter of the perpendicular branch. 

  • Example: A tee described as 22mm x 22mm x 15mm has a 22mm main pipe run and a 15mm branch line.
