Typical use is as a structural side palm fixing for the upright on either straight or sloping guardrails keeping the upright as close as possible to the slope or stairs.
The tube is unable to pass through the standard fitting, should this be required then the base must be reamed out, the bottom fixing hole becomes redundant.
