SPIRAL DRIVA

Spiral plasterboard fixings are widely regarded as the fastest and most convenient fasteners for hanging light-to-medium items on hollow plasterboard.

They get their name from their deep, wide-sweeping external thread that resembles a corkscrew.

Unlike traditional plugs, they are completely self-drilling, meaning you do not need a separate drill bit to make a hole as the tip of the plug acts as its own drill.

How They Work

Spiral fixings have a sharp cutting tip and an oversized cross-recess head (usually a Pozidriv PZ2).

  1. You load the plug directly onto a manual screwdriver or a cordless driver.
  2. Pressing the tip against the plasterboard, you screw it in. The wide external spiral threads cleanly slice their way through the gypsum core until the flat collar sits entirely flush against the paper skin.
  3. You then pass a standard wood screw through the item you are hanging and drive it directly into the hollow centre of the spiral plug.
