STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless steel blind rivets provide the highest level of strength and corrosion resistance of any standard blind fastener. They are the definitive choice for harsh environments, such as chemical plants, marine structures, and food-grade facilities where hygiene and longevity are paramount.

A2 vs. A4 Stainless Steel

Selecting the correct grade is the most important decision for your project:

Feature

A2 (304 Grade)

A4 (316 Grade)

Best Use

General outdoor, fresh water, food industry.

Marine, coastal, and high-chloride settings.

Corrosion

Excellent general resistance; may pit in salt spray.

Superior; contains Molybdenum to resist saltwater.

Strength

Very high tensile strength; significantly stronger than aluminium.

Comparable to A2, but often slightly better mechanical strength.

Cost

More affordable for general structural tasks.

Higher upfront cost but longer life in harsh environments.

Installation Challenges

Stainless steel is a hard material that work-hardens during installation. This makes them more difficult to set than aluminium or carbon steel rivets:

  • Manual Tools: Standard single-hand DIY tools often lack the leverage to break a stainless steel mandrel cleanly and may break under the strain.
  • Lever/Long-Arm Tools: Highly recommended for diameters above 3.2mm to provide the necessary mechanical advantage.
