A Pal nut is a lightweight, single-piece locking fastener made from stamped spring steel.
A Pal nut uses its own spring tension to grip a bolt and prevent loosening.
How It Works
When tightened, the inner flanges of the Pal nut deflect and bite into the root of the bolt's threads. This creates a constant "prevailing torque" that keeps the fastener secure even under vibration.
Common Uses
Pal nuts are generally used in two ways:
As a Lock Nut: It is most often threaded onto a bolt on top of a standard hex nut. It acts as a lightweight secondary lock to keep the main nut from backing off.
As a Standalone Fastener: In light-duty applications with low torque requirements (like toys, appliances, or HVAC systems), it can be used alone to hold lightweight panels together.
