ALL METAL LOCKNUT

All-metal locknuts are precision-engineered fasteners designed to remain secure under heavy vibration, shock, and extreme temperatures where standard nuts or nylon-insert (Nyloc) nuts would fail.

Unlike nylon versions that soften at high temperatures, all-metal locknuts use prevailing torque—mechanical resistance created by slightly deforming the nut's threads or body—to grip the bolt and prevent loosening.

Key Types and Mechanisms

Different designs achieve the locking effect through various forms of metal deformation or added components:

  • Aerotight® Nuts: All-metal stiff nuts (often stainless steel) with a built-in locking mechanism that allows for multiple reuses.
  • Philidas® Nuts: Includes variants like Turret and Industrial nuts that lock in any position on a bolt, making them ideal for heavy machinery and aerospace.
  • Generic Nuts: All-metal stiff nuts without a specified brand, often cheaper than branded types.
